Baccalaureate service to return June 9 after decades-long abscence

Soon-to-be Elk River High School graduates and their families as well as members of the community are invited to attend a special baccalaureate service.
The service will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 9, at Central Lutheran Church in Elk River.
It will be the first such service in decades, thanks to a group of parents, desiring to bring this event back, who got together and planned the event with the help of Elk River High School and area churches.
Elk River High School’s Class of 2016 graduates on June 10.
The last baccalaureate service in Elk River dates back to the late 1970s, according to event planners. The ceremony is a communitywide Christian service to honor and bless the 2016 graduates of Elk River High School.
Baccalaureate is a farewell celebration in the form of a Christian service honoring a graduating class.
This interdenominational service will be a youth-focused service with youth-centered music and student and staff speakers. Refreshments will be served at the conclusion of the service.
