Band, choir program strong at NWSC competition

Elk River High School was well represented at the 16th annual Northwest Suburban Conference All-Conference Band, Choir and Orchestra Honors Concert held at Blaine High School Feb 9.

These singers and musicians were among more than 2,500 students from 14 schools to submit audition recordings and high school music career statistics to compete for spots in the all-conference performance groups.

Seven Elk River High School musicians and eight choir members were named All-Conference.

The Elk River musicians to be honored were Sydney Heinen, Mikala Springer, Blair Budahn, Jake Griffiths, Izzy Hinseth, Elizabeth Stevens and Kami Boedigheimer. Griffiths was placed as a principal chair in the orchestra.

Choir students to be honored were Alexa Filipiak, Olivia Fromm, Enya Mably, Kiera Larson, Erin Mably, Kaytlin Sederholm, Keith Sullivan and Joseph O’Connell.

The festival included several weekends of rehearsals for students. Guest conductors of the festival were Bradley Miller, University of Minnesota, Morris; Justin Zanchuk, College of St. Benedict; and Alan MacNair, Oakland University, Michigan.
